work with us
Sans Frontieres (VSF) is an international disaster relief management organization established to assist the victims of natural disasters

Establishing teams of relief-ready volunteers in disaster prone places is a new departure for us, one which we are piloting in Peru, where we already have a national presence helping abandoned and at risk people.
We are also taking steps to implement VSF in other countries where we work and in places where we have friends, colleagues and cooperating NGOs.

With Search & Recovery / Relief Coordination specialists working as a first response team we hope to be able to save many more lives than would normally be expected
Our work is always in cooperation with, support of and coordinated with Governments and recognised international relief response NGOs and bodies. We plan to be there first & have procedures in place when others arrive..

Disasters - 2008

Below is the web page of one of the NGOs where our volunteers work each weekday. In fact we are largely responsible for the success of the local projects of this NGO.
MAybe the most effective gift you will ever give. We already have volunteers on the ground. They are busy helping some of the best local NGOs. And should an event occur on their watch which requires rescue/relief, they are ready to spring into action. For we are all part of a team of helpers, medics, search & rescue, logiitics, crisis management. brWORK WITH US

Sometimes in force, some- times only a few or even one, but we were there. Since the mid 60´s we have assisted at about half the major natural disasters on earth. Here are a few:

1960´s Caribbean floods & hurricanes.

1976 Earthquake, Italy

1976 - Earthquake Friuli (Italy)

1986, Earthquake, Mexico
mexico .earthquake 1985.

1980s Famine, East Africa
1980s African .Famines

2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami

2007 Ica Earthquake

An earthquake and then a tsunami in a part of Latin America where we have opened schools exposed our lack of preparedness: the fact that we were neither trained nor equipped to deal with such a loss. We did not have an effective plan for getting our schools reopened right away. We have corrected this. Not only can we now get our own schools operating again within a few days, we can also stand in for state schools which are likely to be closed for many months. We can place our portable schools near to a collapsed or damaged national school or else in a refugee camp if the stricken community is temporarily uninhabitable.

The principal limitation to how many portable schools we can open how quickly is the cost of each SCHOOL-IN-A-BOX
[$2,000 US] and the cost of operating each individual SCHOOL-IN-A-BOX per month [$700 US] for up to one school term. We have sufficient trained, mobile staff and we use local teachers in country. Each SCHOOL-IN-A-BOX is made from an air cargo container - each folds out to make a temporary school able to accommodate up to 30 children - with two daily shafts = 60 children. Each SCHOOL-IN-A-BOX is designed to last for up to one year, and can double as a shelter at night. We ship them from Lima airport.

So far we have opened 63 schools throughout Latin America: [Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela]. It takes between two and four weeks from request to fully functioning school [the shortest time so far is one day]. So here we are, standing by, ready to respond. Call us, SKYPE us or email us:
